Jury Charges

The Charleston County Bar Association is pleased to offer the following jury charges for use in Common Pleas and General Sessions Courts. These jury charges come from the Judge's Benchbook for Civil and Criminal jury charges. The Chief Justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court has authorized the Charleston County Bar to put these Jury Instructions on our website.

THESE JURY CHARGES ARE MERELY SUGGESTIONS. THEY ARE NOT REQUIRED AND HAVE NOT BEEN SANCTIONED OR APPROVED BY THE SOUTH CAROLINA SUPREME COURT.

Listed below are "links" to the criminal and civil jury charges along with generic blank jury charge forms to use. Feel free to make changes to these forms as you see fit. Click open either of the jury charge documents. Scroll down the index to the charge you want to use. Double click on top of that charge and you should be taken to that particular charge. Copy that particular jury charge. Open one of the jury charge forms that correspond to the court you are in and paste the language to that form.

It is our hope that providing these charges will aid the lawyer and trial judge in preparing jury charges that are familiar to all and easy to read.
